What is a
raised bed?

As the name suggests, it is characterized mainly by the
higher planting area. The well-known garden bed has been laid to a comfortable
workable height, which brings numerous advantages.

should be between 70 and 120 centimeters high. In terms of the width you should
be able to grab from both sides well to the center, so are 130 to 160
centimeters optimal. If the raised bed can only be worked from one side, this
measure should be halved. The length can be based entirely on available space,
at 200 to 250 centimeters you can shovel at the later renewal of the filling in
any case well in the raised bed. All these measurements should make you
dependent on your body dimensions, because you should be able to work
comfortably with them later on and feel good about them.

For balcony or terrace raised beds, of course, similar
dimensions apply in terms of height, but these will depend more on the
available space. Special forms, such as herbal snails, may also vary, as there
are other factors important.and experience the many benefits yourself.

Plants
for the raised bed

In addition to the right choice of raised bed and the
decision whether to buy or build yourself, it is very important to choose the
right plants for his raised bed. Most people want to plant with their raised
bed their own products that are suitable for consumption and therefore no
longer have to be purchased.

When choosing plants for your raised bed, it is important to
make sure they have enough space. There are some plants that grow in width, so
you should inform yourself beforehand what dimensions your desired plants can
achieve in about.

It is helpful to create a list on which you can make a note
of your desired plants. Take notes on each plant in terms of size, CV and
claims. In this way, they can be clearly compared with each other, so you also
have the required space for each plant and can ensure successful growth.

If you choose larger plants, choose smaller plants such as
herbs for a greater variety.

If you do not have any ideas, here are a few sample plants
that fit well in the raised bed and are well used.

Any kind of salad, celery, arugula, and kohlrabi are a good
choice, as they grow fast and therefore yield a lot. In addition, they have
high compatibility with other plants and require few nutrients, which makes them
easy to assemble with more sophisticated plants without hindering them.

Another high-yielding crop is strawberry, which is a popular
food in summer.

Carrots and other root plants have a fast growth with high
yields due to the loose soil in the raised bed.

Although tomatoes have a high nutrient requirement, which is
why they should preferably be planted in the first year, but grow in height,
which is why they save space in the raised bed.

In contrast to tomato, the zucchini needs a lot of space.
This should therefore be planted on the edge of the raised bed.

In addition to vegetables, herbs are also a popular choice
for raised beds. These usually need a lot of sun, which is why they grow best
in the summer. Useful herbs include basil, dill, parsley, rosemary, thyme,
chives and lavender. These can also be planted in conjunction with vegetables
and often promote them in growth or protect them from diseases and pests.

To protect the vegetables are also flowers, such as Tagetes,
which protects other plants from worms.
